This
Optional Homework Challenge was to write a school story (not more than 1500
words) that included eight pre-selected words. Although starting from the
same base the stories were as ever wildly different. True, two were about
japes at boarding schools but one was a boys and the other a girls. Then
there was a school for al-qaeda terrorists, the
slightly trickier subject of a schoolgirl having a crush on her sports
mistress, a property developer buying up her old school building to turn into
luxury apartments, along with personal reminiscences. The
winner was Les Williams with a tale of a school reunion, organised
for the main purpose of heaping retribution on the school bully who had gone
on to be a successful, if obnoxious, businessman. The runner-up as voted by
the members present was Neil Somerville and in joint third place was Barbara Smith and Dick Sawdon
Smith. |
