The Circle has produced several publications since it was formed in 1993. Some of these have achieved national acclaim.

In the 2011 national awards by the Writers’ News and the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust, our latest book, Pick and Mix, won the Best Writers’ Circle Anthology cup and also the Winner of Winners shield as the best publication in all classes.  It also won a Runners-up certificate in the NAWG national competition.

This follows our success in the same competition in 1994 when our very first book won the Best Writers' Circle Anthology.

The 2006 anthology, “Hidden Depths” was short-listed for the NAWG prize

The Circle has also written its own soap opera, The Chronicles of Much Hemlock, set in a fictitious village in the Cotswolds.  The idea was first raised at a meeting on 19 November 2001 when members discussed that scriptwriters of soap operas seemed to take it in turns to write the scripts.  'Did each writer deliberately set up situations,' we wondered, 'from which the next writer would have to extricate the characters?'

Members were invited to contribute one character each to populate the village and a cast list of about 20 was produced.  The Chronicles of Much Hemlock began with the first episode, The Vicar's Pyjamas, written by Barbara Smith and read out at a Circle meeting on 11 February 2002.

The soap opera received its first mention in the Reading Evening Post on 22 November 2002.  Two volumes of the chronicles  have been published so far.

A few copies of  Wherever the pen takes us, Reflections 2003 and Hidden Depths are available at a reduced price of £1.00 per copy (plus 50p p&p).
