Competition Sites
Prizemagic
This site gives a comprehensive list of various types of writing
competition weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual. It includes
requirements for each, short story, poetry, genre, etc) and fees (if
you’re under 21, many are free!).
The site also offers advice and guidance on entering
competitions. Worth a look.
Reedsy
This site offers an extensive list of writing contests - fee and free.
The contests page allows you to choose what type of
competition you are interested in and filter out expired contests.
The site also has a lot of other interesting stuff about writing and
publishing, and primarily seems to be a marketplace for editors
to connect with writers.
Christopher Fielden
Another site with an extensive list of competitions, but you may
find that some of the links are out of date.
The site also includes some writing advice, and some advice on
publishing and the industry. There is also a newsletter email
subscription which is quite useful to alert you to updates to the
site and other news.
There’s a lot of self promotion - but it is his site!
Erica Verrillo
This is probably one of the most comprehensive sites’ listing
competitions and paying markets, but typically tends to be
focused on America. The July 2023 list shows 66 writing
contests. No entry fees.
The design of the site does not always help you and the latest
articles are usually highlighted to the right of the page rather
than at the top of the page.
There is a newsletter email subscription, but it is rather erratic.
Masters Review
It styles itself as ‘A platform for emerging writers’ and it does
seem to be a useful site, with a monthly newsletter identifying
free competitions over the coming period.
Berlin Literary Review
The Berlin Literary Review is an English-speaking journal of
literature, and of the arts more generally.
